Neurociencias y Bienestar Integral

Si entendemos a las neurociencias como “la ciencia que se ocupa del sistema nervioso o de cada uno de sus aspectos y funciones especializadas” (RAE) y su importancia en el estudio de los mecanismos y bases biológicas subyacentes a la conducta humana, podemos comprender su papel relevante en la construcción y el desarrollo del bienestar en las personas y organizaciones sociales. Cada uno de nosotros debe ser consciente de que nuestro cerebro tiene plasticidad y es posible transformar la mente con el propósito de cultivar hábitos mentales que mejoren nuestro bienestar y, por consiguiente, la convivencia en comunidad.

La perspectiva multidisciplinaria de las investigaciones en neurociencias, que se desarrolla desde la óptica de diversas áreas como sociología, biología, medicina, psicología, psiquiatría, economía y educación, entre otras, permiten un intercambio interdisciplinario para abordar los desafíos que se presentan a nivel global, para contribuir en el desarrollo de las habilidades del futuro, en diversos ámbitos de la humanidad: salud, comportamiento ciudadano, calidad de vida de las personas, transformaciones sociales y tecno-culturales, educación, cuidado del medio ambiente y otros factores importantes dentro de la sociedad, de cara al futuro.

El enfoque de las neurociencias, en el desarrollo y fortalecimiento del pensamiento crítico, innovador y adaptativo, la creatividad, la inteligencia social, la resiliencia, la diversidad, la interacción digital y el manejo de las emociones, es fundamental para lograr equilibrio y coherencia, en medio de cambios disruptivos y transformaciones transcendentales que estamos viviendo como sociedad. Es vital comprender la importancia de atender a estos tópicos, con el propósito de mejorar nuestra salud mental y lograr el bienestar integral necesario, para avanzar.

Su impacto en la educación, de cara al futuro, para el desarrollo de competencias emocionales, mejorar la convivencia y el rendimiento dentro del ámbito educativo, implica la toma de decisiones en la reestructuración de políticas públicas, a nivel global y en diversos ámbitos, para atender las necesidades del mundo que viene.

La búsqueda del bienestar como un estilo de vida está cada vez más presente en la vida de personas y la pandemia no solo ha disparado esa búsqueda, sino que ha sacudido por completo su definición y aplicación. ¿Cómo podemos activar el bienestar en nuestras vidas y hacerlo desde lo cotidiano? Por acá les comparto algunas premisas que pueden ser de utilidad:

1) Sentir, pensar y actuar, desde lo saludable: la pandemia destacó la importancia de adoptar un estilo de vida preventivo, pues la supervivencia colectiva está relacionada con hábitos saludables y la gestión emocional, que puedan prevenir una visita al médico. Los modelos innovadores integran medicina tradicional, con nuevos enfoques holísticos (yoga, mindfulness, meditación, coaching), que promueven la activación de nuestro sistema inmunológico, a través de la gestión de nuestros pensamientos, emociones y hábitos cotidianos, desde una perspectiva preventiva y proactiva.

2) Tecnología al servicio de la salud:  el fortalecimiento del sistema inmunológico y la fuerza física de nuestro cuerpo serán las principales tendencias, a través del uso de tecnología personalizada, utilizando pruebas genéticas, biohacking, telemedicina, opciones para acelerar procesos de atención e identificaciónde terapias físicas e inmunológicas que se adapten mejor a cada realidad.

3) Retorno a la naturaleza: el distanciamiento social le ha dado un valor muy profundo a la naturaleza como un espacio de sanación. Las actividades que tienen que ver con ciclismo, senderismo, caminatas y paseos, son experiencias que nos reconcilian y activan el bienestar, además de que es posible mantener la distancia social.

4) La Casa, un espacio saludable: Con el confinamiento, mantener el bienestar en hogares es indispensable. Desde mantener las ventanas abiertas para recibir la luz del sol, hasta el desarrollo de arquitectura del bienestar, todo está evolucionando, para construir comunidades enteras que tengan una influencia positiva en nuestra salud a largo plazo. Espacios cómodos, seguros, limpios y agradables, en los que se pueda “ser” y “estar”, incluyendo el trabajo desde casa o home office, como parte integral de nuestra nueva realidad.

Las neurociencias nos han brindado la base científica del conocimiento sobre cómo se relaciona el bienestar con el cerebro y con todos nuestros sistemas. A partir del avance de las mismas y el desarrollo de la tecnología, estamos comprendiendo como el “estar bien” produce cambios positivos en el cerebro y que es fundamental identificar formas de promoverlo, a través de herramientas prácticas, con el fin de alcanzar una mayor armonía en el entorno que nos rodea.

Revisar estos y otros aspectos, relacionados a nuestra vida cotidiana, nuestros hábitos, comportamientos, acciones y pensamientos, sus efectos e impacto sobre nuestros procesos físicos y neurológicos, nos permitirá abordar este proceso de cambio, desde una perspectiva saludable y equilibrada, con mayor coherencia entre lo que sentimos, pensamos y hacemos, fortaleciendo nuestra inteligencia emocional y bienestar integral.
